Engineering Service and Finite Element Analysis of Thermal Stresses

We offer services in special heat treatments with high technical complexity using finite element stress analysis.
During maintenance shutdowns involving welding operations on pressure vessels, it is often necessary to perform post-weld heat treatment (stress relief) after welding repairs to minimize residual stresses and mitigate various damage mechanisms that can occur due to high residual stresses in the weld. For example, stress corrosion cracking in components exposed to corrosive substances.
Unfortunately, localized heating around the weld perimeter or even some local areas such as nozzles and connections can sometimes result in deformations or cracks. Here at Tecnotrat, we provide engineering assessments, including finite element analysis of thermal stresses if needed, to optimize heat treatment procedures. This ensures thermal gradients that prevent harmful distortions, cracks, or excessive residual stress. Additionally, we can conduct structural stability assessments to determine if supplementary support, such as cranes, is required during the heat treatment operation.

There are cases where the need for localized heat treatment in nozzle areas of equipment, in specific "bull's eye" regions, is the only possible solution. In such cases, heating an entire circumferential region around the vessel's perimeter is often impractical due to execution time constraints, availability of electrical power on-site, costs, or the need for vertical support to prevent deformations caused by reduced steel strength under heat treatment temperatures.
